SPECIFICATION AND STANDARD FOR STRUCTURAL STEELWORK: GENERAL PART 6 - ASSEMBLY AND ERECTION

1.9.1         General

1.9.1.1      Assembly and erection of structural steelwork shall be carried out in accordance with BS 5950 and BS 5400: Part 3 and Part 6 for bridges unless otherwise specified by SCI.

1.9.2         Method of Erection

1.9.2.1      The Contractor shall submit to SCI at least 4 weeks prior to the erection, the detailed method and sequence of erection, temporary works, details of plant and equipment and  their  inspection certificates and all relevant  drawings  and  calculations  duly endorsed by a Professional Engineer, for his approval.

1.9.2.2      The Contractor shall ensure that the structure is not subject to excessive deflection or stresses during erection.  The approval of SCI shall not relieve the Contractor of his responsibility for ensuring safe and proper execution of the erection work.

1.9.3         Trial Assembly and Erection

1.9.3.1      The Contractor shall, when instructed by SCI, carry out trial assembly and erection of the steel structure at the fabrication yard or other convenient location at his own expense.

1.9.4         Accuracy in the Structure

1.9.4.1      Unless otherwise specified, all structural steelwork shall be fabricated, assembled and erected to the accuracy provisions of BS 5606.
